
While most regions of Mexico have a vibrant vaquero culture, we chose Veracruz for its unique and picturesque coastal mountain topography, as well as its place in history as the first landfall in the New World of the essential cowboy companion: the horse.
The charreria - a stylized form of rodeo - takes center stage in this portion of the film, demonstrating the charros' and charras' love of tradition and the well-honed abilities of horse and rider.
The crew based in the capital city of Xalapa - as the seat of state government and home to the prestigious University of Veracruz, it proved to be ideal for historical resources. The mix of high-tech modern buildings and early colonial architecture was the perfect cultural atmosphere for our story of a traditional past living and thriving in the present.
