Day Three: Several charros on set today in classic vaquero gear; could not look cooler. If I could pull it off, would wear daily - must find hand-tooled sombrero that fits huge noggin. Vaqueros ride and rope professionally through several traditional events. Jeff joins us on set - Spanish & political skill huge assets - el Presidente de Veracruz in '08?
Day Four: Escaramuza on set today - women's coordinated riding teams. Understand now why vaqueros dress to impress. Charras' flowing dresses and sharp Marlene Dietrich jackets matched by professional riding skills, weaving intricate designs at breakneck speed. Swirling maneuvers make stomachs flutter.
Day Five: Or maybe it was the catering. In line with 300 locals & crew at restroom facilities - ah, the glamour of showbiz. But everyone troops on as we shoot at Xalapa Charro Association HQ. Near a onetime summer home of Santa Anna - looking over tropical gardens and serene lake, wonder why he ever left to try and conquer Texas - a good hammock may have prevented the Alamo.
