By our destination - Badajoz, in Extremadura region near Portuguese border - we're ecstatic. Meet Harry and group out at ranch they've chosen and vaqueros give us first-class demonstration of Spanish horsemanship. Surely, this will be our finest shoot.
Day Two: Day off as we wait for gear to arrive, gloriously sunny - chance to explore historic fortresses in Badajoz, fought for and occupied for centuries by Spanish and Moorish armies, stone testaments to why we are here: to show transfer of Moorish horsemanship to Spain and how it gave birth to first cowboy culture. With historical backdrop like this, how can we miss?
Day Three: First day out at ranch and we capture some great shots of vaqueros herding with garrochas, a blunt lance used to steer cattle, which still have dangerous horns and run fairly wild. Fast paced and exciting; all is going well. Then old friend from Texas shows up: rain.
