Walt Foster Walt Jr. eventually went to the US for boarding school, and stayed there long enough to meet and marry Carol. They moved their own growing family back to Sand Creek, built a house next to his parents, and like them, home schooled their children. Under Walt Jr.'s leadership, the ranch has increased its acreage along the valley floor and its lease of government lands in the mountains for summer grazing.

Built by hand Now three generations of Fosters work the ranch, raising their cattle and doing everything else themselves, from overhauling the engines on their semi, dozers and back hoes, to cutting and baling hundreds of tons of hay, building miles of fence, and defending that original road from rockslides and timber falls. You would think such a life would make people hard, but you'll rarely find kinder, warmer folks. How they do it all, one can only wonder.
